- Was able to duplicate issue in the morning. Engine just shuts off like a switch was turned. Noted at the same time the tachometer twitches and the odometer display goes blank as well as other indicators flickering dimly. Noted the engine will stall sometime right when headlights are turned on, or when reverse lights come on as well as when first starting to roll and the ABS pump runs for the self check. Low voltage fault code stored in ABS. Found the Ground at the ABS pump was present, but when loaded with a high-draw lamp the lamp would only glow very dim. Check electrical grounding and found two problems that compounded. One is that the original body ground from the negative battery terminal is no longer present. The wire had been cut off then covered in shrink at the terminal. The other body ground which runs between the firewall and block was attached to the valve cover instead. The valve cover is insulated from the block by the gaskets and bolt grommets, so it is not a perfect ground. With the missing battery body ground, all body grounds were running through the poor connection of the valve cover. Moved ground to correct location on block and replaced the negative terminal and added a new body ground circuit to the original grounding point on driver sided fender area. All faults are now gone and stalling has been remedied.
