    • Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected P0300
    • Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected Monitors Not Complete: Catalyst Evaporative System Oxygen Sensor Engine is constantly misfiring on cylinder #3. Tested all 8 injector circuit resistances at the PCM, found all totally normal at 12.2 to 12.4 ohms. Injector pulse and click okay at #3. P0203 not resetting, but misfire still present. Suspect someone unplugged #3 and set circuit code in an attempt to diagnose?? There is an audible metallic clicking noise in engine, like a lifter/rocker. Cranking compression sounds normal. Remove #3 spark plug and inspect valve operation and coil function. Coil and plugs are new, coil works normally. Compression is good. Checked valve operation with borescope and found the exhaust valve is only opening partially, possibly only a third of normal lift. This is causing the misfire as the cylinder is not able to get all the inert gasses out to complete another full combustion cycle. This is very likely a cam lobe that has been ground down from a failed lifter roller. This type of failure is very common on these engines with the multi-displacement system. Cam and lifters need to be replaced, which involves head and timing cover removal.
