    • Confirm there are no external oil leaks. Removed the upstream O2 sensor and using borescope inspect turbo turbine outlet, no oil seen. Remove the intercooler (noted one missing nut and spacer, replaced on assembly) and inspect the turbo compressor outlet and intercooler with borescope, no abnormal oil seen from turbo. Removed the spark plugs and inspect the cylinder walls, valves and pistons. Plugs do show oil/carbon buildup. All four pistons show clean surface around the cylinder bore, indicating oil wash past rings. Some scoring is noted on cylinder walls. All exhaust valves have excessive white carbon buildup on valve faces but NO oil on back side of valves or stems from valve seal leakage. This white buildup is the result of oil ring blow-by and carbonizing on the hot exhaust valve faces. With engine back together and the PCV supply hose pinched, the blow-by from the oil cap is high. Engine needs to be rebuilt/replaced to solve oil consumption. Possible to try a de-carb of the rings with an oil additive and/or top end cleaner soak to see if rings will free up and seal again, but this may prove futile. Engine oil level low 3 quarts.
