- Code scan finds no faults in powertrain system that would give any indication to fuel economy problems. Upon visual inspection, found engine oil cap has been left off and laying on top of the engine cover. Oil splatter all over, and on exhaust, probably what the customer is smelling. Also crankcase vapors smell like fuel. Engine oil level is very low, no oil on dipstick at all. Advise to change oil and filter and clean up the engine bay and reassess after another couple of tanks of fuel.
- Change oil and filter. Replace with synthetic oil. Lube chassis, top off all fluid levels, adjust tire pressure.
