- "B" Camshaft Position Slow Response Bank 1 Review scan data for all four actual cam positions and VVT solenoid commands. Confirm there is a fault occurring on the bank 1 exhaust cam timing control. Cam timing is hunting, swinging throughout a wide range while at a steady load. Other exhaust cam of steady, only varying a degree or two, while cam in question is swinging about 15 degrees above and below the target angle. Actual angles are okay at idle which means the chain timing is okay. This is a VVT phaser or oil control issue to that phaser. As a first step the VVT solenoid was removed from the B1EX cam and the oil control valve was found to be in normal condition as far as movement and not binding or sticking. The VVT solenoids are all the same part number on this engine, so the B1 intake and exhaust solenoids were swapped and the VVT control was again monitored on scan tool. The exhaust timing on both banks now match at there is no more laziness or over-shoot of timing. The B1 intake cam now shows to have slower adjustments that B2. At this point it looks like just the B1EX VVT solenoid needs to be replaced, timing relearned, and road tested to confirm that code no longer sets. If faults come back for same cam, the phaser(s) will need replacement.
