- Terminals not seated down far enough onto tapered battery posts, so clamps cannot fully tighten. Also Battery not set into base plate correctly and is moving around. Remove both terminals, fully loosen clamp nuts, and expand clamps. Fully seat terminals onto posts and tighten clamps. Terminals now tight. Set battery into base and correctly install hold-down plate.
