    • Was able to duplicate issue in the morning. Engine just shuts off like a switch was turned. Noted at the same time the tachometer twitches and the odometer display goes blank as well as other indicators flickering dimly. Noted the engine will stall sometime right when headlights are turned on, or when reverse lights come on as well as when first starting to roll and the ABS pump runs for the self check. Low voltage fault code stored in ABS. Found the Ground at the ABS pump was present, but when loaded with a high-draw lamp the lamp would only glow very dim. Check electrical grounding and found two problems that compounded. One is that the original body ground from the negative battery terminal is no longer present. The wire had been cut off then covered in shrink at the terminal. The other body ground which runs between the firewall and block was attached to the valve cover instead. The valve cover is insulated from the block by the gaskets and bolt grommets, so it is not a perfect ground. With the missing battery body ground, all body grounds were running through the poor connection of the valve cover. Moved ground to correct location on block and replaced the negative terminal and added a new body ground circuit to the original grounding point on driver sided fender area. All faults are now gone and stalling has been remedied.

    • Evaporative Emission Fuel Tank (Gross Leak) (Symptom 00) -OBDII Permanent Codes ($0A) P1423
    • Manufacturer Specific Performed the EVAP system on board self-test after visually inspecting entire EVAP system for obvious faults or damage. System passed with no leakage detected. Ran test multiple times before and after road testing. Still no leaks detected. EVAP monitor has completed and code P1423 shows ran and passed in mode 6 data. Permanent code also cleared due to test passing more than 3 times. There are no EVAP faults at this time. See attached Post-Scan.

    • Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Circuit Vehicle speed on this model is calculated by the ABS module from all four wheel speed signals, then transmitted to the speedometer/cluster where the signal is modified then transmitted to all other modules such as the PCM. Speedometer/cluster faults are very common on these platforms, but the ABS communication code could indicate the issue is on the ABS side. The ABS module has a high voltage code set in history. When the module detects a voltage of over 17.4V it will shut down and store the code. This will stop the transmission of the speed signals to other modules, set U019 codes in those modules, AND set a P0500 code. Freeze frame data in PCM shows battery voltage of 18.19V at time of P0500. This high voltage is being read by more than one module, so it is very likely a true reading caused by alternator regulator failure.
