Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) Control Interruption Because of Engine Instructions OBDII Codes ($03) P0117
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low Freeze frame shows engine overheat condition of 258 degrees. Found engine is low on coolant and oil. Added 2 qt oil. Added 3/4 gallon water to radiator. Right away engine oil is visible in the coolant funnel used for filling and bleeding cooling system. No coolant in oil. Upper hose and radiator cap seals are soft from oil contamination. The only way pressurized oil can get into the cooling system on this engine is from head or head gasket failure. Left cam carrier/timing cover area leaks oil pretty bad. Cooling system operating is normal with full coolant, but won't maintain pressure well with rad cap seal being distorted from oil. Needs to have head job performed, but oil consumption may be a big issue on this engine already. LOF not yet due and had none on dipstick.

Lost Communication With Vehicle Dynamics Control Module Scanner is unable to communicate with VDC(ABS) module. All codes point to this issue. Check CAN network resistance at the DLC, found 60 ohms which is the expected value. The ABS module and the PCM are the two modules with resistors in the CAN circuit. Unplugging the ABS module results in the expected 120 ohm CAN value, as each module has a 120 ohm resistor. Shorting the CAN circuit at the ABS connector results in zero ohms, so CAN circuit is normal. Load tested the powers and grounds at the ABS module, all normal. ABS module is faulty. Looks like dealer recommended all 4 wheel bearings. Road tested and verified some bearing noise. With vehicle running on lift found RF and LR bad. RR makes a very small amount of noise, and LF is silent. Recommend RF and LR first.
